Emma, Duchess of Rutland to run the 2017 Virgin London Marathon on behalf of the Belvoir Cricket & Countryside Trust
We are delighted to announce that our Patron Her Grace the Duchess of Rutland has kindly agreed to run the 2017 Virgin London Marathon, in support of the Belvoir Cricket & Countryside Trust.
The Belvoir Cricket & Countryside Trust set up in 2008 works with Primary School Children from disadvantaged and disability backgrounds to get involved in sport to promote healthy lifestyles and countryside education. Based at Belvoir Castle we work across the East Midlands to engage with over 2,700 children each year.
Emma commented ‘doing up my laces and running the marathon is a daunting challenge but I am delighted to be doing my bit. I became Patron in 2008 and am passionate about the work that the Trust does. It is vital we give our young children the opportunity to access sport and also to encourage them to share in our beautiful countryside here in the Vale of Belvoir.
The Trust is led by Darren Bicknell the former Surrey, Nottinghamshire and England ‘A’ cricketer and works across 5 core projects – Belvoir Bees, Cricket & Countryside Days, Teach Cricket, Special Needs Schools and our Volunteer programme. All information about the Trust can be found at www.bcctrust.org.uk
Darren commented ”I too am extremely proud of the work we do with the Trust and I am absolutely delighted that Her Grace has decided to support us by undertaking the 2017 Virgin London Marathon. It is a huge event and a great opportunity for the Trust to raise much needed funds. I wish Emma all the best.
